Congratulations and all the best to Barb on her retirement!

Definition of Barb Smith (Medical Records MP):  1. Hard worker; 2. Kind;  3. Empathetic; 4. Perseverant; 5. Generous;  6.  Humane;  7. Angel;  8. Helpful; 9. Strong; 10. FRIEND.

There are not enough words to define our Barb S.  She has worked at Arbor Centers for EyeCare since December 1998 and will be retiring on May 24, 2013.  That’s a lot of bending, stretching, and chart pulling over 15 years.

Barb SmithBarb and her husband Jack raised 3 fine children, 2 girls and a boy. Their little family grew to include 10 grandchildren and one great-grand child. After her stint as ‘Chief Cook and Bottle Washer’ at her home, Barb then went to work at Oak Lawn High School as a cook for the students.  In 1998, Barb started her job in medical records at Arbor.  At that time the office name was Southwest Ophthalmic Consultants and was located in Oak Lawn, IL.    In 2004, Arbor Southwest moved to Merrionette Park.  Barb and her family boxed up the records and helped move the office.  She said it was a family affair, her children helped her set up medical records and Jack made her desk out of file cabinets and shelving.

When it came to finding charts, we would tease her saying, “Barb is the ‘Raider of the Lost Charts'.” Barb is one of the best in the business when it comes to Medical Records.  She was also voted ‘Employee of the Month,’ because of her diligence, persistence, and helpfulness in looking for charts.  She has also had perfect attendance for many years.

When asked what she would be doing when she retired, her answers where few but sounded sweet.  She was serious when she said, “Nothing, I have no plans.  Jack and I are taking one day at a time.”   Although, she does have a trip planned to see her granddaughter graduate.

Dr. Albanis summed up Barb in these eloquent words, Barb has served the medical records team for years and years with great loyalty, respect for her work and endless attempts to find charts in every possible secret location. CONGRATULATIONS Barb on your BOLD move.  THANKS for your service and making our lives and those of our patients better by finding those charts!”

Your work ethic, humor, and loving nature, Barb, will surely be missed at Arbor Centers for EyeCare.
