About Dr. Ann Tran:
Dr. Van Ann Tran (Ann) is an oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in ophthalmic plastic, orbital, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and serves as an assistant professor at the University of Illinois of Chicago. Dr. Tran is a Midwest native from Wisconsin who attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for her undergraduate education. There she studied Biochemistry and graduated with highest honors in the top 5% of her graduating class. She stayed at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on a merit-based scholarship for medical school and was selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Tran then trained in Miami at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, ranked the #1 eye hospital and residency program for the past 18 years. She then completed a prestigious two-year ASOPRS accredited oculoplastics fellowship in New York City. She received multiple awards during her training, including a surgical fellowship teaching award and has over 60 peer-review research publications, 15 book chapters and presented her work at numerous national meetings.

Dr. Tran is an oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in ophthalmic plastic, orbital, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). Dr. Tran completed a prestigious two-year ASOPRS accredited fellowship in New York City a part of Columbia, Cornell, New York University, Bellevue Hospital and Manhattan Eye and Ear Throat Hospital. During her fellowship, she had the opportunity to work with the top plastic, ENT and neurosurgeons in a multi-disciplinary fashion to treat complex orbital and skull base tumors. Dr. Tran’s primary goal is to provide individualize care. Each patient is given a thoughtful customized plan, working together towards a common goal. Dr. Tran’s area of expertise includes droopy eyelid surgery, eyelid malposition, brow and forehead lifts, thyroid eye disease, cancers of the eyelid and orbit, facial nerve palsy, anophthalmic sockets, lacrimal/tearing surgery, and non-surgical facial rejuvenation with neurotoxin and soft tissue fillers.
Why did Dr. Tran become an Ophthalmologist?
Dr. Tran first discovered the specialty of ophthalmology as an undergraduate student and her passion grew for oculoplastics surgery during medical school. She fell in love with the breadth of pathology within the field and delicacy and creativity needed for many of these reconstructive cases. She finds joy working together with the patient to save and restore vision to provide natural results. Dr. Tran has also found a passion in her research in thyroid eye disease, complex orbital diseases, collaborative efforts to develop new surgical approaches for skull base lesions and the effects of cosmetic injectables on eyelid lymphatic drainage.
What does Dr. Tran do outside of being a Doctor?
Outside of work, Dr. Tran enjoys do-it-yourself crafts to decorate the home and for family events. She loves a good Wisconsin Badger gameday and bringing together friends and family. When traveling, Dr. Tran will always seek out a good hike and take in as much of the culture as possible. She is excited to continue her exploration of the vibrant city of Chicago and to start up her own urban garden this spring.
